In this video I’m unboxing, building, and reviewing the brand new LEGO Speed Champions 77258 F1 Academy LEGO Race Car. It released on 1st March 2026, comes with 201 pieces, and here in the UK it’s £22.99—which is exactly what I paid because I was genuinely excited and grabbed it from the LEGO Store. Straight away I liked the magenta and medium azure colour scheme, and I appreciated that it isn’t just a lazy recolour of the other F1-style Speed Champions cars, because F1 Academy is a different type of racing car altogether. I take you through what’s in the box (four numbered paper bags, a small sticker sheet, and one instruction booklet), and I also point out a couple of odd omissions—like the lack of a real-car comparison image you usually get with Speed Champions. The build took me about half an hour and felt refreshingly different, with some interesting new parts and shaping, especially around the side pods and the rear. I also go in on the mix of prints vs stickers: there are some lovely prints (including wheels and some key tiles), but a few stickers I really wish were printed—especially the tiny ones that are fiddly to line up. Overall, I can’t really find many negatives beyond wanting more prints. The more I look at it, the more I like it, and it’s a brilliant addition alongside my other F1 cars and Speed Champions displays—although I’m definitely running out of space.
