About This Video

I can’t believe I’m actually saying this, but I finally got my hands on LEGO Speed Champions 77256 — the Back to the Future Time Machine. In this video I unbox it, run through what you get in the box (five numbered paper bags, a small sticker sheet, and the base piece), and then build it up while, of course, watching Back to the Future. It’s a 357-piece, two-in-one set, so you can make the Part One version and then convert it into the Part Two version with the extra bits. Once it was built, I was honestly surprised at how much I enjoyed it — it’s probably one of my favourite LEGO sets in a long time. I go properly close-up on Doc and Marty, compare them to the older LEGO Dimensions versions, and I’m very impressed with the torso printing (especially Doc). My one big complaint is Marty’s face print — it just looks old and a bit wrong — and I might swap the hairpiece too. Then I get into the car itself: it’s heavy, solid, and unmistakably the DeLorean, with loads of clever printed details like the flux capacitor and the “OUTATIME” plate. It’s not perfect (a few awkward gaps, some stickers I wish were prints, and no opening gullwing doors), but for £23 I think it’s absolutely worth it — and I’m already tempted to buy a second one so I can display both versions.
