In this video I unbox, speed build, review, and then modify LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog 77117 Sonic Speeds the Lightning (126 pieces). Here in the UK it’s £9 (RRP £8.99) and it’s based on the Sonic Racing Crossworlds game, so my first impressions were pretty simple: £9 for a car and a minifigure is a good start. Inside the box you get four numbered plastic bags, one instruction booklet, and a loose base piece for the car. The build itself is quick—about 10 minutes for me—with 52 steps across 66 pages, and I’m building on my Rebrickable desk mat (not a sponsor, it’s just genuinely handy). Once it’s built, I go through what works and what doesn’t. The proportions and shaping are solid for a 7+ set, even if the front is a bit rough compared to the in-game car, and there’s an awkward gap where the nose slopes down. I also point out the box-pose issue: Sonic can sit in the driver’s seat, but he can’t really see over the windscreen unless you stand him up. You do get a fun play feature with the green emerald under the bonnet and three gold rings, plus a spare gem. Then I do what I always end up doing—I mod it. With a few part swaps I turn it into a clean, modern LEGO City-style sports car and drop it straight onto my seafront, ready to live in my city layout.
