About This Video

In this video I put two versions of the Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine head-to-head: a MOC by Fire Fabric on Rebrickable, and the official LEGO set that released in January 2026. They’re both clearly going for the Part II look (and yes, you can convert them to Part I), but I’ll be honest—I prefer the Part II design. I start with a quick size check and they’re basically the same footprint: same width, and the official set is maybe a stud longer. The big visual difference is that the official set leans on prints and stickers, while the MOC relies purely on bricks and plates. Where the MOC surprised me is in the “play” features the official set just doesn’t have. The wheels on the MOC actually fold in and out for hover mode, and it even has delicate-but-working gullwing doors (the windscreen gets in the way a bit, but it still works). The official set does some things better though—like the cabling/paneling with trans light blue printed tiles, better rear light shaping, and it’s got printed Mr. Fusion. Best surprise? The MOC includes an official LEGO light brick: tap Mr. Fusion and the flux area lights up. It doesn’t fully suggest the flux capacitor by itself, but you can even mix parts from the official set to push the MOC further. I leave it to you which is “better”—they both nail the shaping and details in different ways.
