March 1st 2026 is basically here, so in this video I run through the brand-new LEGO Star Wars wave — with a big focus on LEGO’s new Smart Play stuff. And honestly… I’m not impressed. Smart Play looks like a gimmick that’s going to be a total flop, especially when loads of the sets are “Smart Play compatible” but don’t actually include the Smart Brick. At the time I recorded this, you can’t even buy the Smart Brick separately, so the cheapest way in is buying a £60 set first — which makes the whole lineup feel awkward and overpriced straight out of the gate. I go set-by-set, calling out what looks good (usually the minifigures) and what feels a bit misleading (strategic product photos, missing back panels, and builds that look chopped about just to fit the tech). Luke’s Landspeeder and the AT-ST look decent at a glance, but the value is rough and the Smart Play compromises are obvious once you spin them around. The Vader TIE and Red 5 X-Wing include the Smart Brick, but both end up with big sections missing, and the “features” don’t justify the prices for me. My overall takeaway: I’m not rushing to buy any of these. If LEGO starts selling Smart Bricks separately, maybe I’ll revisit it — and the only one I’m even slightly tempted by is the AT-ST for the minifigs and an easy mod to close the back up.
