I just got the iPhone 16 Pro Max, and with iOS 18 there are finally a ton of little tweaks that make your phone feel more aesthetic and more convenient. In this video I walk through the first 16 things I’d change—starting with battery health (I set my charge limit to 80% because that last 20% strains the battery the most), then jumping into iOS 18’s new Control Center customization. I show the controls I actually use, like Quick Notes (it’s a temporary notepad that doesn’t pull you out of your app), Live Captions for silent watching, resizing widgets like the music control, and even the “ring my watch” button for when it disappears. I also go deep on the new camera control button—how it clicks, how it can switch settings, and why I prefer mapping it to switching between cameras (because some in-between zoom levels look way worse than true lenses). For video, I’m honest: the default camera app is still kind of lackluster, so I map my Action Button to Blackmagic Camera for proper controls and Log. Then I share settings for 4K defaults, 4K 120 slow-mo, pausing video recording, plus my favorite iOS 18 customization: placing apps anywhere, hiding/Face ID-locking apps, dark mode icons, widgets (MD Blank, Weather Graph Pro, Overdrop), lock screen shortcuts, Focus mode layouts, StandBy setups, haptic keyboard feedback, RCS, and new iMessage features like scheduled texts.
