Smartwatches are something I don’t cover that often, but I do love using them—if they get three things right: the look, the feel, and battery life. In this video I tested the Xiaomi Watch S3, and it honestly hits all three for me. You’re getting a 1.43-inch AMOLED display (466x466, 326 PPI), a 47mm case that’s about 44g, 5ATM water resistance, and a big 486mAh battery that Xiaomi rates at up to 15 days. And in my real-world use, that 15-day claim is actually about right, which is the biggest reason I care in the first place. What makes the Watch S3 stand out is the customization. Not just swapping watch faces and bands, but also changing the ring/bezel around the display—twist it off, pop another one on, and the watch even suggests matching watch faces depending on the ring you choose. I’m terrible at clothing fashion, but I love playing around with styles in general, so this is exactly my kind of feature. On top of that, it covers the basics I want: sleep tracking with stages, heart rate and blood oxygen, 150+ sport modes, plus handy controls for music, YouTube, and even your phone camera. For me, it’s a smartwatch that stays a smartwatch—without turning into a “smartphone on my wrist” that needs charging every couple of days.
