How to Cook Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs Recipe Hong Kong Style Cantonese Style If you go to a Chinese restaurant or Chinese Takeaway and want to order a sweet and sour dish, sweet and sour ribs Hong Kong style or Cantonese style is the one to go for. Not only is this the most 'authentic' sweet and sour dish - and by that I mean it's the one Chinese people would order - it's also the best. Chunks of juicy spare ribs covered in a light, knobbly, crunchy batter, coated in the most delicious sweet and sour sauce and accompanied by some crisp peppers, onions, carrots and pineapple. Eaten with light, fluffy steamed rice - Heaven!!! This dish always takes me back to some of the best parts of my childhood - family, good times and great food. And now I'm passing this on to you so you can make your own memories :) For 3-4 people you will need 700g of spare ribs 300g cornflour/corn starch 1 egg 1 bell pepper roughly chopped 1/2 an onion roughly chopped 1/2 a carrot thinly sliced 1 small tin of pineapple chunks in juice 3 cloves of garlic finely chopped 1/2 inch of fresh ginger, peeled and finely sliced 5 tbsp malt vinegar 5 tbsp tomato ketchup 5 tbsp sugar 2 tsp salt 1 tsp ground black pepper 2 tsp garlic powder Enough cooking oil to deep fry For the marinade: 1/2 tbsp sesame oil 1 tbsp light soy sauce 1 tsp sugar
