Chinese Beef and Mushrooms Takeaway Takeout Style Another one of my favourite dishes is the classic but often overlooked beef and mushrooms. Beef and mushrooms can sound bland compared to all the spicy and sweet/sour dishes that chinese cuisine offers us but when done right it is absolutely packed full of flavour. Add to that the tender, succulent, velveted beef and the chunky comfort food that are mushrooms and we're really onto a winner. It's also incredibly simple and easy to make. Another one of those amazing dishes you can rustle up during the week in minutes :) Ingredients: For 2-3 people 300g of beef - I used silverside to prove how easy it is to tenderise meat by velveting but you can use steak or other cuts if you wish. 5-6 good sized mushrooms 1/2 a white onion 1 clove of garlic 1 small 'thumb' of ginger A pinch of salt and pepper 1 tbsp of light soy sauce 100-150ml of freshly boiled water 1 tbsp of cornflour/cornstarch in a little cold water to thicken 3-4 tbsp of cooking oil for stir frying For the beef marinade: 1/2 tbsp of sesame oil 1 tbsp light soy sauce 1 tsp sugar For velveting: 1 tsp cornflour/cornstarch 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda Check out my full video on how to slice and velvet meat for maximising tenderness https://youtu.be/NYQJgA35mkY
