In many ways the original scholar of geopolitics, Thucydides’ analysis of the Peloponnesian War has remained a foundational work for over 2000 years. In this webinar, Professor Polly Low and Professor Bill Hurst will look carefully at the events and ideas that animate Thucydides, and show that we can learn much about geopolitics of Ancient Greece and beyond. About the Speaker Polly Low is Professor in the Department of Classics and Ancient History at Durham University. She is a historian of ancient Greece, with particular interests in the political history of the Classical Greek World, and in the history (and ideology) of Greek interstate relations. Professor Low also works on Greek historiography and epigraphy. Before Durham University, she was a member of the Department of Classics & Ancient History at the University of Manchester. She studied at Oxford (undergraduate) and Cambridge (PhD), and was W.H.D.Rouse Research Fellow in Classics at Christ’s College, Cambridge.
