China Now: The 4th plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee and beyond

In this webinar, Prof William Hurst and Dr Alice Politi discuss the outcomes of the 4th Plenary Session of the 20th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, which concluded on the 23rd of October. They also touch upon recent developments in China’s foreign affairs, such as the 28th ASEAN-China Summit and the upcoming meeting between Trump and Xi in South Korea. About the Discussants: Prof William Hurst is Co-Director and Strand Leader for the Indo-Pacific Strand, Centre for Geopolitics, and Chong Hua Professor of Chinese Development, Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (FAMES), University of Cambridge. Bill received his PhD in 2005 from the University of California-Berkeley and, following two years as a postdoctoral fellow at Oxford, held tenured or tenure-track posts at the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Toronto, and Northwestern University, in addition to a fellowship at Harvard University’s Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, before coming to Cambridge in January 2021. Dr Alice Politi is a Post-Doctoral Research Associate of the Indo-Pacific Strand, Centre for Geopolitics, University of Cambridge. During her PhD, she was also the 2024 Eisenhower Defense Fellow at the NATO Defense College and a Policy Advisor at the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT). Her doctoral research focuses on EU-China relations during the presidency of Xi Jinping, with a focus on China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
