In this video I take you through my full “Illustrated Travel Journal 101” process, using my Edinburgh trip as the example. I’m working inside a Traveler’s Notebook watercolour refill, and I show you how I go from collecting little bits on the go (photos, tickets, receipts, random paper treasures) to turning them into a journal that actually tells a story. The goal isn’t just to make pretty pages—it’s to build visual storytelling you’ll want to flip through over and over. I start with planning: what the narrative is, what moments I want to highlight, and how I structure a layout so the pages flow. Then I move into urban sketching, inking with fineliners, and adding colour with watercolour and watercolour pencils (my favourite combo when I want both softness and detail). I also share practical hacks like making small photos in Canva, creative ways to include photos and mementos, and even how I create a little “door” element inside the journal for that playful, interactive reveal. Finally, I talk about writing—how I add text without overwhelming the visuals—and I wrap it all up with a full flipthrough of the finished Edinburgh travel journal so you can see how every step comes together.
