In this video I introduce ORLANDO: my mini art series of original, textured acrylic works on paper, inspired by Virginia Woolf’s “Orlando”. The novel’s exploration of gender identity—fluid, evolving, and beautifully complex—became my starting point. I reimagined that inner transformation through a natural metaphor I keep coming back to: the volcano. For me, lava is all the parts of ourselves that are constantly mutating and slipping into each other, yet still carrying a thread of continuity. I talk you through the materials and the intention behind each piece: textured acrylic, mixed media, and liquid gold leaf on 100% cotton rag, acid-free Khadi paper, mounted on A4 black mountboard. The gold is a direct nod to kintsugi—how cracks aren’t something to hide, but places where healing and beauty can live. Each artwork is hand-painted (not a print), sold unframed, and packaged with a protective sleeve and a certificate of authenticity—so it’s ready to be kept safe or framed in any A4 frame.
