In this live cookup I had a little power dip that knocked my internet out, but we came right back and kept it moving. Shoutout to my battery backup for saving the day—my computer stayed on so I could save the project and not lose the sauce. Once the chat came back, we locked in on a crazy loop from RX Viper (straight fire), and I started building the drums around the bounce. I talk through my thought process on recognizing the pocket first—this one was 100% a triplet/Wheezy-type bounce—then choosing the right clap, hats, and 808 to match it. I tested kicks, but ended up taking the kick out because it felt like too much, and I leaned into the “less is better” mindset: fewer sounds, better placement, cleaner groove. I also played with reverse/unique moments before the drop, talked sound selection, and even touched on layering bass and doing quick frequency-strip style breakdowns for variation. I also answered questions about my workflow: I’m still Logic gang (samples + engineering), but I’ve been using FL more lately for collabs because the drum/arrangement workflow is just faster for me.
