Hey what’s good—CJ here. In this video I’m building a 2Pac type beat in Logic Pro X, and I challenged myself to use only stock sounds and stock plugins. No third-party instruments, no extra drum kits inside the session—just what comes with Logic. I walk you through the exact sound selection I started with (E-piano with SilverVerb, SoCal kit, classic analog bass, legacy guitars, Mellotron strings/flute, plus a few keys) and why those textures work for that classic West Coast / soulful vibe. For the music, I use the “Dear Mama” chord movement as the foundation, set the session to 168 BPM in halftime (so it feels like 84), and keep things human by quantizing with the strength pulled down around 50%. From there I build the drums (kick/snare, hats, ride, crashes, open hat, tom), add compression to make the kit pop, and even double the kick so it knocks. Then I record the bass, keep the swing by not over-quantizing, and start arranging sections—bringing elements in and out, automating delay to avoid clutter, and using EQ automation on the drums for energy changes.
