About This Video

In this Blank Canvas Cook Up Ep. 20, I’m live in my new setup doing a straight-from-scratch beat in Logic Pro and basically stress-testing everything—audio, mic levels, and the connection. I’m checking in with the chat, getting my moderators in the building, and making sure y’all can hear me clean while I start picking sounds. I dig through keys first (I’m literally like “let’s pick out some sounds… let’s go some keys”), then I start shaping the vibe without even fully knowing what kind of beat it’s gonna turn into yet. From there, I’m building the rhythm and bounce in real time—tightening timing, extending sections to eight bars, and making decisions like when to stop fixing and just replay a part to get the pocket right. I add movement with a gate-style rhythm using Kickstart, bounce things in place, and keep tweaking until it sits. We get into hats (including quick rolls), claps, and even some beatbox-style percussion, then I clean it up with tools like Remove Silence, apply project tempo to the downbeat, and widen elements with an imager (and yeah, I call out when something starts sounding whack). It’s a test run cook up, but the takeaway is the process: sound selection, groove, cleanup, and keeping it musical without overdoing it.
