Blank Canvas Cook Up Ep. 19 - Mixed in Key sent me their brand new version of Captain Chords Epic - Making a beat with Captain Plugins Epic!

About This Video

In this Blank Canvas Cook Up Ep. 19, I’m live in Logic Pro building a beat from the ground up using Mixed In Key’s brand new Captain Plugins Epic. Big shout out to Mixed In Key for hooking me up—my goal here was to really stress-test the workflow: start with Captain Chords Epic for a chord progression, stack Captain Melody Epic on top for a melodic layer, and then let Captain Deep generate a bassline that actually follows the chord movement. I’m working in B♭ minor gypsy at first, showing how the plugins talk to each other, how I’ll refresh ideas until something hits, and how you can drag-and-drop MIDI into Logic so you’re not stuck in “plugin land.” I also get into the details that matter: adjusting note lengths, using the built-in velocity tools so it doesn’t feel robotic, and experimenting with rhythm banks (trap/hip hop, dark trap, etc.) to get movement fast. Then I restart “for real” the way I normally do it—finding an inspiring sound first—and rebuild the idea again with the Captain workflow. Before I wrap, I touch on Captain Play (one-note chord triggering), plus features I still want to explore more like MIDI import and upcoming rhythm tools. If you’re not classically trained (I’m not), this is a super practical way to get intricate chords, melodies, and basslines moving quickly without leaving the key.
