About This Video

Oi, oi, you rabble—today I’m taking a quick look at Sonicake’s Amphonix 2, which is basically the updated, refreshed version of their old Ampliphonix amp plug. I walk you through the physical controls, how it powers on, and how you can put it into pairing mode to use it with the Sonic Link app. On the side you’ve got volume up/down, and on the face you’ve got three buttons—each one holds three presets, giving you nine sounds ready to go straight out of the box. I also cover the connections: guitar in on an unbalanced jack, stereo out via the headphone socket, and USB-C for charging—but importantly, it can record direct into a phone, tablet, or laptop, and they actually include the USB-C cable. I don’t go deep-diving the app presets (there are 50 pre-installed and you could lose four hours of your life in there), but I do sound test the nine onboard presets—clean stuff, then into high gain territory, and back around again. For about £35–£40 in the UK, I reckon it’s a great little device, and if you’ve got the first Ampliphonix, this one’s the way to go: better design, better feel, and better preset tones.
