I’m judging these on texture, pore-clogging risk, and whether the formula actually makes sense for oily/acneic skin. Some of these were an immediate no for me because they’re basically oil-based or have pore cloggers high up in the ingredient list (and yes, one of them broke me out like you would not even believe). My biggest takeaways: if you’re very acneic, skip anything that’s heavy, milky, or loaded with oils—especially if you’re seeing things like palm oil and oleic acid. For a true acne-safe smash, I liked Skin1004’s Lavender Nature Retinol because it’s lightweight, minimal, has no pore cloggers, and uses technology to help retinol/retinal penetrate while still feeling soothing. I also smashed Belif’s Pore Tightening Serum as a beginner-friendly intro with a gel texture, 0.1% retinol, and peptides. And for Innisfree’s Gentle Retinol Salicylic Acid Serum, I like it more as an acne/BHA serum than a real retinol, since the retinol amount feels negligible and they don’t even disclose the percentage.
