Those are: 1. Guns 2. Money 3. Land 4. Tribe While the current power structure of the nation-state has fulfilled its role, and certainly still does provide benefits for the people of the world today, Brett doesn't believe that the benefits we receive from the nation-state will continue to outweigh the costs we incur as a consequence of their control. He argues that cryptocurrencies and (the likes of bitcoin) and other decentralized platforms are a major social step in the march of humanity towards greater and greater freedoms. And, that the role money plays in the hands of a sovereign power actually serves as a barrier to exiting the current system. Cryptocurrencies can act as a means to exit said system, but opting out of the traditional financial system isn't enough to force a necessary rebalancing of power between the government and the governed. Borders between countries are not necessarily a bad thing, but borders that serve as barriers to entry and exit are. If we as citizens can vote with our feet - can choose the governance structure that most closely aligns with what we see as most important to us - then it introduces a level of competition between governments that doesn't currently exist. And, how much more powerful would we be as individuals if we held that leverage over the government. They truly would need us more than we need them because, as he states in the video, you can't have a nation-state without people to govern. Brett believes that innumerable, decentralized, tiny experiments in governance with low barriers to entry and exit are the power structures of the future. And, innovations in blockchain and cryptocurrency-based technologies will help us get there. Watch, and let us know what you think!
