A lot of y’all saw the title and thought, “Bolo, we already know how to make a keygroup.” But I’m making this one for the new people jumping over to the MPC side—especially on MPC 3.7. In this video I show you how to take literally ANY oneshot sample (a bell, an 808, whatever) and turn it into a playable instrument on the MPC Live 3 or the MPC X/XL. The whole goal is simple: load one sound to a pad, convert it to a keygroup, and now you can play it across your keys—either from a MIDI keyboard or straight from the MPC pads using Pad Perform. I break it down two different ways. Method #1 is the easiest: use the 16 Levels button (it literally says “to keygroup” in red). You can hit Shift + 16 Levels or just double-click it, and you’re instantly in keygroup mode. Then I show the big “gotcha” that trips people up: keygroups default to mono, which is cool for 808s, but not if you want to play chords. So I go into Global and switch KG Poly from mono to poly and set how many notes I want (I used 8), and now it plays like a real instrument. Method #2 is for people who don’t see the keygroup button—go into Track Edit, hit the three dots, and Convert to Keygroup, then set poly the same way.
