About This Video

The long-awaited MPC Sample is finally here, and I’m gonna keep it real with y’all: this thing is petite, portable, and powerful. In this video I do a quick overview of the key features—because you’ve probably already seen the leaks—but I still wanted to break down what matters. You’re getting that classic MPC60 look, a full color screen (not touch), bank letter display, classic MPC pad response (pads are smaller but they feel right), and a built-in speaker that’s way better than it has any business being. They even put a little hand rest pad on there, plus there’s a mic on the unit and it actually sounds good. I also run through the I/O and workflow: 3.5mm headphones, sync out, MIDI in/out, stereo in/out, record gain, USB-C for charging and file transfer, and a micro SD slot for storage. The shift button is king on this unit—most moves are shift-based—so just know that going in. Then I cook up a quick beat using only the preloaded sounds (about 100 kits) to show how fast you can get to work: sample select, manual chop, tighten chops with zoom, set tempo/bars in sequence, record with count-in, add hats with note repeat, then kick/snare and level it out. Bottom line: I’ve been having a ton of fun on it, and I’m dropping deeper dives soon.
