Starfield is officially coming to PlayStation 5, but is it an "incomplete" port? While the game is topping the PS5 pre-order charts, there’s a major red flag regarding the graphics modes and performance. In this video, we look at the DualSense exclusive features (adaptive triggers, light bar, and touchpad) versus the missing 40 FPS mode that makes the Xbox version so much smoother. Is Sony and Bethesda hiding the base PS5 performance to push the PS5 Pro? We break down the frame rate targets, the "Todd Howard 30 FPS" controversy, and why 40 FPS is the true "sweet spot" for Bethesda RPGs. About This Video

Starfield is landing on PS5, and I wanted to be excited about it—new platform, big free update, DLC drop, whole new wave of players. But after digging around, I’ve hit a pretty glaring red flag: the PS5 port’s performance/graphics mode details are weirdly vague, and it looks like it may be missing features the Xbox version already has. Yes, PS5 gets some cute DualSense stuff—adaptive triggers changing feel per weapon (and even ship weapons), light bar health/integrity colour changes, touchpad shortcuts for POV/map/scanner—and yes, there’s talk of a PS5 Pro “enhanced” mode. But the messaging is suspiciously Pro-focused, and that’s where the problem starts. On Xbox Series X, Starfield has an unusually flexible setup: separate frame rate targets (30/40/60), separate graphics vs performance priority inside those targets, plus a V-sync option. And the big one—the hill I’m happy to die on—is 40 FPS. It’s the sweet spot: massively better feeling than 30, and often cleaner/sharper and more consistent than a compromised 60, especially in Bethesda-style first-person RPGs. In my Chug Town stress test, 60 can’t even hold 60, while 40 sits there like a champ. If PS5 launches without a 40 FPS (or uncapped VRR-style) option while Xbox has it, that’s going to be a launch-day cluster-frack—and I’m ringing the bell now so we can all keep our eyes open and scream appropriately if it’s not good enough.
