I’m doing a Water-type only monotype run in Pokémon LeafGreen, because Blue + Squirtle is my origin story. That means if it’s not Water type, it’s not coming on the team. The whole point is to drown Kanto with Team Mighty Moist and suffer through the old-school jank while I do it.

Why did Blunty choose Water types only for LeafGreen?

Accepted Answer

Because Pokémon Blue was my first game and Squirtle was my first Pokémon, simple as that. It’s Pokémon’s 30th anniversary, so I wanted something nostalgic that actually means something to me. Also, Water teams are fun, and I like fun.

What starter does Blunty pick and what nickname does he use?

I pick Squirtle, obviously, because we’re doing Water-only. And I named him Mikey, because I’ve been naming my Squirtles after Ninja Turtles forever. My first one was Donnie, then Leo, then Raph — Mikey was overdue.

I used to make fun of my mate for being into “a kitty game,” then he made me watch the Pokémon movie on VHS. The Psyduck slap-fight scene made me lose it laughing, and that was basically the first domino. I emulated Pokémon Blue out of curiosity, lost like five or six hours, then went and bought a Game Boy and the real cart the next day.

Nope, and that’s half the comedy. You can’t swap Pokémon from the PC whenever you feel like it — you’ve got to physically go to a Pokémon Center and use the PC. And don’t get me started on how newer players are going to react to old EXP Share and all the other missing conveniences.

No, and it’s going to mess with people who started in the newer gens. In these games, whether a move is physical or special depends on the move’s type, not the move itself. So you get weird stuff like Ghost being physical and Fire Punch being special.

Can you increase shiny odds in Pokémon LeafGreen?

Accepted Answer

Not really — there’s no shiny charm and no methods to boost odds like later games. It’s full odds all the way, and in this era it’s the brutal 1 in 8192. As the kids say: you’re raw-dogging the shiny hunt.

What does Blunty think about the Pokémon Presents and Switch 2 coverage?

A lot of it was mobile phone garbage I don’t care about, and I’ll say that with my whole chest. And I’m still baffled they’re doing things like releasing the second GameCube game first — where’s Colosseum on Switch 2, exactly? Also: I don’t trust Game Freak teaser trailers anymore, because they’ve misrepresented games before.
