Nintendo just released System Update 2.0.0 for the Switch 2, and it includes a massive FREE performance upgrade: Handheld Boost Mode! If you’ve noticed your original Switch games look blurry or "smudgy" on the Switch 2’s 1080p screen, this is the fix we've been waiting for. This new feature tricks your library into using "Docked Mode" profiles while in handheld, delivering sharper resolutions and smoother frame rates. In this video, I'll show you a side-by-side comparison of Monster Hunter Rise with and without the boost, explain the math behind why integer scaling matters, and show you exactly where to find this hidden setting (it’s buried at the bottom!). About This Video

Nintendo finally did the thing I’ve been yelling about since before the Switch 2 even launched. System Update 2.0.0 adds “Handheld Boost Mode”, which is basically a glow-up button for your entire Switch 1 library when you’re playing portable. The core idea is simple: it tricks compatible games into using their Docked Mode performance profiles even while you’re handheld, so you get sharper resolution targets, smoother performance, and generally less of that smeary, soft-focus nonsense. In this video I break down why Switch 1 games looked weirdly blurry on the Switch 2’s 1080p screen in the first place: most of them were built around a 720p handheld expectation, and 720→1080 is a messy 1.5x scale that can’t ever be pixel-clean. Worse, some games (Monster Hunter Rise/Sunbreak is my go-to example) were already doing internal upscaling in handheld, so Switch 2 was effectively scaling the image twice, and neither step was integer scaling. I show side-by-side footage of Monster Hunter with and without the boost, explain why the image cleans up so dramatically, and I also point out the catch: it’s off by default because battery life takes a hit, and Nintendo buried the toggle right down the bottom of the settings like absolute geniuses.
