In this video I’m practicing my e-file pressure and control after damaging my nails. I wanted to slow down and rebuild my technique with a few simple exercises that help improve precision and muscle memory. Today I’m practicing in three different ways: • Practicing pressure control on a pencil • Practicing controlled drill movement on a gel-polished nail tip • Testing light pressure and precision on an eggshell The eggshell test is a helpful way to practice delicate drill control because the shell is extremely fragile. It forces you to work slowly and lightly, which is similar to the level of care needed when working close to the natural nail. For this practice session I’m also trying out a fine bit from Sweetie Nail Supply designed for overlay and soft gel removal. I normally use a medium barrel bit for debulking, but I wanted to practice with a finer bit to improve my control when working closer to the natural nail. Sometimes the best way to improve your technique is simply to slow down, practice intentionally, and rebuild confidence in your control. About This Video

Recently I slightly damaged my natural nails during a removal, and it was the perfect reminder of how fast you can lose pressure control if you’re distracted or rushing. In this video I slow everything down and we practice e-file control together, because muscle memory with a drill is something you actually have to maintain. I walk you through three simple (but super effective) drills that help with precision, light pressure, and overall confidence—especially when you’re working closer to the natural nail. First I do the pencil test for pressure control: the goal is to remove the paint without digging into the wood (think of the pencil showing through as “hitting” your natural nail). Then I do a gel polish layer test on a tip with multiple colors, trying to remove one layer at a time without blasting through to the next—this is all about product control and smoother removal. And last, we do the eggshell test for advanced precision (yes, I was scared), because it forces you to be insanely delicate. I also try a finer bit than I’m used to—the Yogo Mango Softcon Pro Bit from Sweetie Nail Supply—since I normally reach for a medium barrel for debulking. My biggest takeaway: if you’re not 100% comfortable, remove about 70% and soak the rest. Slowing down and practicing intentionally is how you prevent those little rings, burns, and damage.
