History of MasterChef in the UK

In 1990, MasterChef would make its debut on British television. A TV cooking show pitting the country's best amateur cooks against each other, it continues to this day and remains one of the world's most popular shows. Let's take a look at the story of the origin, development and continuing story of MasterChef in the UK. MasterChef was created in 1990 by director Franc Roddam in an attempt to elevate the perception of UK food and cooking by focusing on finding the best British amateur cooks. Loyd Grossman presented the show in the 90s, followed by a brief stint where Gary Rhodes fronted the show. John Torode and Gregg Wallace took over the job in 2005 and are still the hosts of the main show. On 1st April 2024 the new series of MasterChef UK will premiere on BBC One.
