This is part 3 of my DIY electric skateboard build series, and this is the part that makes your board actually feel “right” when you ride it: VESC setup and RC remote pairing. I walk you through configuring your Vedder Electronic Speed Controller (VESC) settings and getting your remote talking to the VESC so you can control throttle and brakes safely. If you’ve already got the hardware bolted together, this is the step that turns it into a rideable esk8. I also call out a big compatibility warning with BLDC Tool: before you use it, make sure with your vendor that you’re on a 4.12 VESC. The BLDC Tool links I share are loaded with firmware 2.18, and that’s specifically for VESC hardware 4.12—so don’t just send it if you’re unsure.
