In this episode I'm brewing up a Kentucky Common Ale. It's a historical beer style that uses rye and is perfectly suited to use the malted corn I made in a previous video. Also, I test out the Australian No-Chill cooling method for the wort. Place your brew bag in the kettle, then add the grain (stirring frequently to prevent clumps), cover and let the grain mash at 148-150° F for 75 minutes. Raise the water temp to 168°F for 10 minutes for mash-out. Remove the grain bag and sparge with 3 gallons fresh water, then add the sparge and the LME to the wort in the kettle. Stir in thoroughly to prevent scorching the LME, then bring the wort to a boil and add hops. After boiling for 60 minutes, cool the wort, then siphon to a sanitized fermentation vessel and pitch yeast. Ferment in primary for 1 month. Bottle using 4.3 oz of table sugar for priming. OG = 1.048, Target FG = 1.008, ABV = 5.25%, IBU = 22.97, Color = 16.88 Link to the Original Kentucky Common Recipe I Found-- http://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=290419 TWITTER - https://twitter.com/BeardedNBored Intro music - “Yes Ma’am” by Cullah is licensed under an Attribution-ShareAlike License.
