Some of my channel members linked up with me for our third Member’s Trip, and we spent three days doing what the Ozarks does best—river valleys one minute, mountain peaks the next, and weather that laughs at your plans. I kicked things off with a quick detour to a little limestone cemetery tied to the Union-soldier story from my Piney videos. A local reached out with the plaque location, and another guy who restores headstones was the one who placed the marker—so yeah… I’m already working on future history/haunted projects with him because there are still a lot of stories out there that need told. From there it was convoy life: Forest Service roads, tunnel-like tree cover, a full-size Ram with a big camper that needed easier access, and a pit stop at Devil’s Knob where I found old foundations I still can’t fully explain. The forecast and OnX precipitation layer said “light showers,” but up high you can smell rain before you see it—and I knew we were in for more than a drizzle. We raced to get awnings deployed, got absolutely hammered by an unexpected thunderstorm, and had to pivot hard (movie night got rained out). That’s overlanding to me: you’re at the mercy of the wild, and the detours, hidden gems, and friends you make are the whole point.
