About This Video

If you’re getting that Dota 2 error where the match gets found, you see the player color bars, then you hit a black screen and Dota throws “Disconnected from server – we stopped receiving communications from the remote host,” this is exactly what I covered in this video. I know how annoying it is because after that, matchmaking gets disabled like it’s your fault. I went through the same loop—reconnecting, restarting, waiting—none of that helped, so I broke down what actually made a difference. First, I show the quick stuff you should try right away: drop your Dota 2 graphics settings to low or medium, apply, restart, and test again. It sounds dumb because Dota isn’t heavy, but during draft/loading the game does a lot in the background and that alone can stop the black screen for some people. Next, I disable Steam Overlay, because Steam Overlay and Dota 2 love to fight each other—turn it off in Steam settings, reopen Dota, and queue again. And finally, the fix that solved it for me personally: upgrading from 8GB RAM to 16GB. Dota can run on 8GB, sure, but in my case it couldn’t load the match properly and kept disconnecting—16GB made the issue disappear completely.
