Do you want to know the easiest way to monitor temperature without Wi‑Fi or Bluetooth? In this build I put together a fully wireless temperature monitor using an ESP32S3, a DHT11 temperature/humidity sensor, and a pair of REYAX RYLR998 LoRa modules—no internet needed. This is the kind of project that makes sense for outdoor camps, off‑grid cabins, barns, or anywhere your Wi‑Fi just doesn’t reach. I wire the DHT11 to the ESP32 (data on pin 4, power/ground), then use UART (pins 16/17) to talk to the LoRa module and transmit a simple payload every 5 seconds. The other half of this video is the “why didn’t I do this sooner” tool: the REYAX RYLS135 level shifter. It’s a USB‑to‑UART serial converter plus a bidirectional level shifter, so I can plug it straight into my PC and read LoRa data in the Arduino IDE without needing a microcontroller on the receiver side. I also show how the jumper settings select 1.8V/3.3V/5V logic, how I verified the voltages with a multimeter, and how to safely match the LoRa module’s 3.3V UART. Finally, I break down what the received serial output means (address, payload length, RSSI, SNR) and talk briefly about logging/graphing options.
