About This Video

In this video I put the NOEVSBIG fume extractor on my bench and tested it to see if it actually helps with soldering fumes—or if it just blows smoke. I also did a quick PubMed search and found 60+ scientific articles going back to the 1960s that link solder fumes (especially colophony/pine resin) to issues like occupational asthma and lung damage. I’m not a medical professional, so this isn’t health advice, but it was a good reminder that a lot of us (me included) have soldered in rooms with little to no ventilation. I go over what you get in the box, the build quality, and how easy the filters are to replace. The unit feels solid with a metal casing, heavy rubber feet, and a firm on/off switch, and it’s got some real weight to it. Then I do real-world smoke tests with soldering, including lead-free solder, and a distance test—this thing was still pulling smoke toward the filter from roughly 11 to 11.5 inches away. My takeaway: it’s strong enough for light to moderate soldering, it’s not silent but not annoying, and while it won’t remove all VOCs, it’s definitely better than breathing fumes straight off the iron. I’d still use it with ventilation, and you can even experiment with pre-filters or layered filtration if you want to upgrade it.
