In this video I do a hands-on review of the Freenove V5 Control Board (Mini V5), which is the first Arduino Minima alternative board I’ve personally seen that’s basically a functionally identical clone. It uses the same Renesas RA4M1 microcontroller with an ARM Cortex‑M4 core, and it’s got the same flash/SRAM/EEPROM setup. I walk through the on-board parts like the barrel jack (6–24V input), USB‑C, reset button, the built-in “L” LED on pin 13, and the TX/RX LEDs for serial activity. I also point out one feature I really like that Arduino doesn’t include: the extra through-holes next to the headers so you can expand the header pins more easily. Then I jump into a quick beginner-friendly knock pattern project using a 41mm piezo (I call it a “PO” disc in the video). I wire the disc to A0 because the analog input makes it way more reliable for detecting both light taps and harder knocks. I add a 1MΩ resistor and a capacitor in parallel from A0 to GND to shunt high-frequency noise, then drive a 5mm LED from pin 9 with a 560Ω resistor (about 5.5mA, safely under the 8mA max per I/O pin). The code learns a knock pattern by timing knocks in milliseconds, stores them in an array, and then checks your attempts—so you can use the same idea for things like unlocking a door, triggering lights, or playing audio.
