I bought my 2025 RAM 2500 Cummins HO 4x4 Tradesman brand new in August, and by April I’m already done with it. Not because diesel is over $5.30 a gallon where I fill up, and not because it’s unreliable. The truth is I stopped driving it because it’s a giant, stiff 3/4-ton truck that rides like absolute crap when it’s empty—and most of the time, I’m not towing anymore, so it’s empty. Yeah, it’s a “work truck,” but it’s loaded for a Tradesman: big screen, parking sensors, adaptive cruise, LED headlights, tow package, and it’s only got about 11,000 miles. I also clear up the “it broke and he’s dumping it” comments. The only issues I had were a DEF gauge that never read right and a fuel gauge that stuck on full; the dealer replaced the tank/sending unit and it’s been fine. Mechanically, I’ll tell you straight: these Cummins trucks aren’t the ones I worry about. The problem is comfort and practicality—why make big monthly payments on something I don’t enjoy driving? So I traded it… for a 2022 Rivian R1T Adventure Pack, quad motor, large battery. I got it for about $43,000, it’s stupid fast, and it’ll tow 11,000 pounds—3/4-ton territory. Now I’m going to actually use it, test range and towing, and figure out if I keep it… or move on (again).
