My birthday weekend in the mountains, in under three minutes—aka fog, food, views, and my hair getting absolutely humbled by humidity. We rolled into the area starving, hit up one of the best rated spots on Yelp, and you guys… the food was so bland. The only thing that really saved it was this queso Fredo on top that was actually pretty tasty. After that we headed into the park and the fog was unreal. I was genuinely worried we weren’t going to get any good views, but that first trail had this little enchanted forest vibe and it totally set the tone—sun started peeking out and because it was so foggy, we basically had the trails to ourselves. We spent the day chasing the sun, stopping at overlooks whenever we could, even though the fog would roll back in and take over fast. We ended the day at our favorite pizza place, Dr. Ho’s Humble Pie (40-minute wait, still worth it), and I’m not exaggerating when I say that fat and sassy cheese bread is the best cheese bread we’ve ever had. Then we crashed at the Airbnb—cute, on a ton of land—but my hair was completely wrecked from the fog and humidity. Dry, tangled, and I fully regretted going to bed with it in a damp bun. Next day: more trails, a fun little water spot Will found, and yes… we stopped at Licking Hole Creek in Gooch, Virginia. I’m not joking.
