In this video, I’m taking y’all along while I turn my dry, dusty, dehydrated curls (that have been THROUGH it) into moisturized, shiny tiny twists… on already-styled, tangled hair. I’m leaving for California next week to visit my best friend/brother and help with my little nephew, and whenever I travel for more than a few days, tiny twists are my go-to so I can focus on family and not spend all my free time doing my hair. The problem is: my hair started as a wash and go for my anniversary/Valentine’s, then Savannah humidity obliterated it, and it basically turned into puffy, frizzy twists with super dry, tangled roots—especially in the back. I walk through my “make it work” product lineup (even though I don’t recommend doing it this way), how I twist for a tighter, smoother finish, and what I do when the tangles are genuinely gnarly. This took me about 8+ hours total, and yes—I even had to cut out one section that was too gummed up with product and wouldn’t detangle. But the final result surprised me: the twists came out shiny, smooth, and moisturized, and it confirmed for me that tiny twists are still my favorite protective style when I need a break and my hair needs to be left alone.
