About This Video

Over the past couple of months, with the new year creeping up, I’ve been wanting to revamp my routine so my curls can be as healthy, happy, and luscious as possible in 2026. In this video I walk through my “handy dandy list” of 10 things I’m focusing on—knowing I won’t be perfect, but if I can do most of them most of the time, my hair is going to thank me. A big theme here is moisture + detangling, because my hair is above-average tangled (borderline matte sometimes), and I’m trying to see if I can get a noticeable decrease in tangles overall. I’m cutting down the super long stretches between wash days (yes, I did 15 days… we’re not doing that like that anymore), moisturizing more between washes even if it means extra frizz, and bringing hair grease back in a big way because my strands love that soft, protective “hug.” I’m also adding scalp massages, doing quarterly tiny twists for length retention, and treating wash-and-gos more like a “treat yourself” style since they’re harsher on my hair than twists. On the cleansing side, I’m experimenting with double shampooing/clarifying (nervous but intrigued), blow drying more with a cool-shot-heavy hybrid approach, and doing quarterly deep detangling sessions with a silicone conditioner to get to the tangles I know I’m missing. And finally—hair adjacent but very real—I’m locking in on being healthier overall (food, water, exercise), because it all shows up in your hair.
