In this video I’m doing a relaxing night “recoloring” session with my Catrina illustration, and I’m showing you exactly why I’m such a big believer in recoloring your art. I’m taking a piece that originally lived in blue watercolors and giving it a totally new vibe with bold pink alcohol markers—same line art, completely different mood. This is one of my favorite ways to experiment with palette choices, practice blending, and basically give myself permission to play without the fear of ruining the original. I also talk through my setup and materials (because yes, good paper and good lighting matter—especially at night). I go section by section—hair, flowers, face, background—sharing the little blending decisions that make the pinks feel smooth and intentional. My biggest takeaway: scanning your line work is a game-changer. Once you have clean line art, you can test new markers, try wild color palettes, and redo your own work as many times as you want.
