When I’m raising and breeding water dragons, I’m always trying to stack the odds in my favor with consistent nutrition—especially for growing juveniles, gravid females, and animals coming out of brumation or a breeding season push. Gut loading is one of those boring-but-critical habits that pays off long term. I go over the basic idea of building a simple routine: keep your feeders hydrated, give them a clean, nutrient-dense diet shortly before feeding, and avoid relying on “whatever’s around” if you want predictable results. The whole goal is to turn crickets/roaches/etc. into better packages of nutrition so your dragons aren’t just eating empty calories.
