The transition from the highway grid to the winding, atmospheric backroads of Washington is a complete mental reset before the physical work of a hike begins. This solo drive heads east into the Snoqualmie Valley, capturing the incredible contrast of late March snow clinging to the ground while the deep green of the Pacific Northwest canopy pushes through. Driving through these corridors of ancient Douglas firs and western hemlocks offers a close look at the rugged terrain of the region. As the road pushes deeper near North Bend, the sheer rock faces of the Si mountain system begin to loom over the treeline. Little Si itself is a massive volcanic plug sitting right in the shadow of Mount Si, jutting directly out of the valley floor. The low-hanging clouds dragging across these peaks create a heavy, moody atmosphere that perfectly sets the tone for a cold morning in the mountains. This drive leads directly to the Little Si trailhead, setting the stage for a deceptively tough 4.7-mile round trip hike. The route features a steep burn right out of the gate, mellows out through the forest floor, and ends with a rocky, aggressive push to the summit. With snow at road level, the trail will be packed with slick mud and ice under the canopy, making it a slippery final ascent. Thanks for watching, and make sure to join us on our next adventure!
