Hiking the Spine: Racing the Sunset at Rattlesnake Ridge

With only 60 minutes on the clock before the trailhead gates locked, I attempted a solo sprint up the Cliffbrake Trail to catch the golden hour on the spine of Rattlesnake Ridge. The goal was simple: reach the summit, capture the cinematic views of Lake Maumelle, and get back down without getting locked in for the night. About Rattlesnake Ridge Natural Area: Located just west of Little Rock, Arkansas, Rattlesnake Ridge offers a rugged, more technical alternative to the popular Pinnacle Mountain. This video covers the ascent up the Cliffbrake Trail, a path that transitions from dense forest to an exposed sandstone spine. The ridge line itself is narrow and rocky, requiring careful footing and offering some of the most dramatic drop-offs in Central Arkansas. The Hike & Conditions: This solo adventure focuses on the unique geology of the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains. The exposed rock formations provide a "razorback" experience that makes the 900-foot elevation feel much higher.
