Is Indian Creek actually the most dangerous hike in Arkansas? It certainly has a reputation. There is no official marked trail to the Eye of the Needle, just a series of social paths that weave through the box canyon. In this video, I head upstream from Kyles Landing to tackle the slick limestone, the rope climbs, and the massive bluffs that make this hike infamous. The Hike: Indian Creek to the Eye of the Needle. This route is widely considered a bushwhack rather than a standard hike. The path follows the creek bed, requiring frequent water crossings and navigating through dense brush. As the canyon walls close in, the terrain shifts from a walk to a scramble. You will encounter slippery waterfalls, steep mud slopes, and sections where fixed ropes are the only way to progress safely. I chose to hike this in winter to see the canyon lines clearly and avoid the summer overgrowth, but the cold water and slick rock present their own challenges. The Destination: Buffalo National River. Located in the heart of the Ozarks near Jasper, Arkansas, the Buffalo National River was America's first designated national river. Kyle's Landing serves as the primary trailhead for Indian Creek and offers a primitive campground right on the water. While the river is famous for floating, the Indian Creek drainage offers some of the most rugged and vertical terrain in the entire park system.
