Overland Expo Mtn West 2025 was packed with gear that actually makes car camping and overlanding easier, cleaner, and more reliable—so I walked the booths and pulled out the stuff that stood out for real-world builds. I started with 23Zero and their new Horizon 2 rooftop tent, and the first thing I noticed was the shell. It’s a contoured, welded, powdercoated aluminum shell (not a bunch of extrusions and joints), so it looks super sleek and there’s just less “stuff” to eventually loosen up or leak. They also baked in smart details like a legit 4-inch heater/AC port, big arched windows, and a self-inflating mattress with a cutout so you’re not fighting your power station cables. Next up was Trukd with their new A-Series “angled” rack. If you want that streamlined look but still want a rack that’s basically a stainless steel unit, this one is built to take abuse—less componentry, high weight rating, and it still takes their accessories. Then I checked out Las Vegas Overlanding Co’s low-profile quick release tent mounts—only about 3/8" tall—made for those tight Toyota-style racks where you can’t get your arms in to remove a tent. Finally, Kraken showed me their revised electrical system: a cleaner, smaller core that turns a complicated solid-state controller install into a robust, expandable, connectorized ecosystem you can grow into as your build evolves.
