In this video I’m installing a complete Renogy house battery system into my 2024 Tacoma (aka Taco Supreme) for easy car camping and overland travel—built to charge from both solar and the alternator. The heart of the setup is Renogy’s S1 Pro 120Ah hybrid lithium/solid-state battery. It costs more than a typical lithium battery, but for me the big win is safety and peace of mind, especially with the battery mounted on the side of the truck where a roll or side impact is always a non-zero possibility. I also tie in my existing Lensun hood-mounted solar panel and route it into the Renogy DC-DC MPPT charger so one device manages both solar and alternator charging. I walk through the whole install: disconnecting the starter battery, building a standalone harness with MC4 connectors, routing wiring cleanly under the frame (I used magnetic zip-tie mounts so I didn’t have to drill the frame), and fabricating a custom mounting panel inside my Next Jump Outfitters aluminum side box. I’m using a 1000W Renogy inverter (same one I run in my Superduty) and a Nilight DC outlet panel for simple 12V access. My biggest gripe is the Renogy ONE Core display/app experience—it works, but it’s not super intuitive and doesn’t show all the info I actually want at a glance. Overall though, the system is robust, clean, and totally doable in a home garage—just plan for tedious wiring, especially if you’re doing it in Montana winter temps.
