We pause through key sections and deal with what’s actually being said: tithe is down, inflation is real, and the conference is preparing to reduce about 20 full-time salary positions through “attrition,” redistricting, and asking pastors to cover more churches. I also point out how the hopeful background music doesn’t match the urgency of the message—because what I’m hearing is a house-on-fire type of call. Dr. Vine explains why the “inflation and uncertainty” explanation doesn’t fully account for what’s happening. If people were simply unable to give, we wouldn’t see other ministries thriving—yet many are. From our perspective, the deeper issue is a crisis of confidence in leadership and the way the Village Church situation has been handled, leading members to redirect giving elsewhere. We also talk about the irony: the conference is now going to rely more heavily on local elders, even while asserting authority to remove elders without due process—something the Church Manual addresses directly. We close by tying all of this to end-time realities: when Sunday laws and the mark of the beast crisis escalates, the work will be carried by faithful laypeople, not institutional structure.
