This is about the lockdown, of course, every artist needs their lockdown song! On the subject of lockdowns, I tried to take a more oblique approach rather than tackle the idea directly, placing the protagonist ('Copacetic Joe') in a job in which he feels trapped. The relentless monotony of life, with seemingly no positive changes in sight, has put Joe on course for a very serious breakdown. But rather than talking about his mental health issues, he tries to hide behind his positive external personality. I'm sure many of us have felt like this from time to time, and we can probably see that the outcome doesn't look good for Joe unless something gives. Originally hailing from the UK, Tom Hannay is a master songwriter who weaves together diverging styles of music to create a sound that is soft and cool, yet deeply powerful. Over the years, Tom has been drawn repeatedly to Iceland through music, ultimately making the move there permanently. His second album Dog Days is a tasteful blend of dream-pop and soul that flits between nonchalance and fervour, laying infectious vocal lines over sophisticated arrangements, to create a sound that is entirely his own.
