In this video I’m testing the ThorBolt MK1, a Thread-enabled smart door knob that works with Apple Home and gives you a bunch of ways to get in: a keypad for passcodes, a fingerprint reader, a physical key, and even USB-C backup power if the batteries die. I walk through the unboxing, the install, and the physical design so you know what you’re actually getting before you commit to swapping your existing knob. Then I spend time on the real-world stuff that matters—how reliable the fingerprint sensor feels day to day, how the keypad works for different people, and how auto-lock behaves so your door isn’t accidentally left unlocked. After that, I add it to Apple Home and go through the HomeKit features you’ll actually use, like managing access codes and controlling it from your Apple devices (Apple TV/HomePod as a home hub, plus Apple Watch and Mac control). I also show where to check Thread status, talk battery life expectations, and call out what you’re not getting—like HomeKey support—so you can decide if this is the right kind of “Apple Home” lock for your setup. I wrap it up with my final thoughts on whether the MK1 is worth buying if you want Thread + HomeKit control with multiple entry options.
