In this video I’m testing Govee’s new String Lights 2 from the perspective of an Apple smart home user—because on paper they check a lot of boxes: Matter support, RGBIC lighting, and a bunch of holiday-focused effects. I walk through the design and install basics, then spend time on the stuff that actually matters day-to-day: brightness, color accuracy, and whether the effects look good in real life (not just in marketing shots). I also show off the “paint your own colors” feature and the shape mapping idea, which is where these lights get genuinely fun if you like custom scenes. I also cover the Govee app experience—including the AI chatbot—then jump into my Matter setup and what it’s like bringing these into Apple Home. I’m very clear about what Apple Home can do with them (the essentials) and what’s missing compared to controlling them in Govee’s app (a lot of the advanced effects and customization). Finally, I talk Siri Shortcuts support, and I compare them to other holiday lighting options like Twinkly, so you can decide if these are worth it for your setup and your budget—especially if you’re trying to keep everything centered around Apple Home.
