Frozen Salisbury Steak had its time… but this homemade version is richer, heartier, and loaded with real comfort food flavor. This Homemade Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy and Garlic Mashed Potatoes is comfort food done right. Juicy beef patties are packed with shallots, green bell peppers, garlic, panko breadcrumbs, heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, and bold seasonings before being seared until golden brown and finished in a rich homemade mushroom gravy. In this video, I start with the finished Salisbury steak simmering in gravy, plate it over creamy mashed potatoes, and take that first bite before showing you exactly how to make it from scratch. We build flavor from the beginning with fresh shallots, green bell peppers, button mushrooms, and garlic, then use the same pan to create a deep, savory gravy with beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, and roasted beef base. The mashed potatoes are just as important — buttery, creamy, and finished with roasted garlic base for the perfect side to soak up all that gravy. If you grew up eating frozen Salisbury steak, this homemade version will completely change the way you look at this classic comfort food dinner. 👇 Full Recipe Below INGREDIENTS FOR THE SALISBURY STEAKS: • 2 lbs ground beef • 1 shallot, finely chopped • 1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped • 3 garlic cloves, minced • 1 egg • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs • 2 tbsp heavy cream • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce • 1 tsp smoked paprika • 1 tsp onion powder • 1 tsp garlic powder • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes • Salt and pepper to taste • Avocado oil for searing FOR THE MUSHROOM GRAVY: • 8 oz button mushrooms, cleaned and sliced • 2 tbsp butter • Remaining shallots • Remaining green bell peppers • 2 garlic cloves, minced • 2 tbsp flour • 3 cups low sodium beef broth • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce • 1 tsp smoked paprika • 1 tsp Better Than Bouillon Roasted Beef Base • Salt and pepper to taste FOR THE GARLIC MASHED POTATOES: • 4–5 russet potatoes, peeled and chopped • 4 tbsp butter • Heavy cream, added to desired consistency • 1 tsp Better Than Bouillon Roasted Garlic Base • Salt and pepper to taste INSTRUCTIONS 1.
